"A Table with Top Chef Mei Lin" Powered by the 2017 Toyota Mirai

Image
2017 Toyota MIRAI , a Hydrogen powered vehicle with zero emissions except for water. I remember hearing about Hydrogen fuel cell cars awhile back, but refueling stations were nonexistent at the time. You get an app that will find Hydrogen fueling stations. Similar to Hybrids, the MIRAI has a massive battery system. Time for a Test Drive! Photo by Kristie Hang It has pick up and accelerates well. But I guess you don't  drive one for high performance. The MIRAI comes pretty loaded, the only option you pretty much have is picking from one of the 6 available colors After the Test Drive, it was time to fuel up. Three Years of Complimentary Fuel with a MIRAI purchase But I don't think this is what I had in mind... Until we got to the next room...  Then I saw Top Chef Mei Lin plating and then it made sense to fuel up. You may remember her, winner of Top Chef season 12 and part of the opening ...

Okinawa Raw Sugar Sea Salt Nitro Latte (New) - SpireWorks®

Image
If you follow me, you know I like the new SpireWorks ®  first store in Westwood. Read my Westwood SpireWorks® post HERE Now that their Eagle Rock location has opened, (Grand Opening on January 24, 2017) this one is a lot closer to me. Which means,  I can come in just for one of my favorites, Nitro Brew Coffee. What's Nitro Brewed Coffee? It's coffee that has been infused with nitrogen gas. Nitro brewed coffee is creamier and a richer  taste.   IMO, the acidity is lower and no need to add cream (if you like it that way). Yup, SpireWorks® has Nitro Brewed Coffee, BUT, they've taken it up a notch. See What Jay Eats... and drinks Photo by SpireWorks® I'd like to introduce you to the Okinawa Raw Sugar Sea Salt Nitro Latte Exclusively at SpireWorks® in Westwood and Eagle Rock. Chef Brian Huskey's New Beachside Shack

Image
One thing that I love (but not always have time)  is going to the beach, even if it's to sit and watch the waves. But now I have another reason... Top Chef fans probably remember Chef Brian Huskey from Season 11 (New Orleans). Los Angeles diners may know him from restaurants such as Picca, Mochica, and Paiche. Regardless, I got a sneak peak tasting of his latest venture, Tackle Box (at the beach). See What Jay Eats...  Shrimp Sandwich with Romaine on a squid ink roll (this was a tasting size sandwich) The shrimp sandwich was fresh with crunchy lettuce, a good sandwich for a day at the beach. The house chips with seasoned salt were really good too. Salmon Poke with avocado, crispy rice and citrus dressing. Nice twist with the citrus flavoring and avocado.  Buffalo Cauliflower with blue cheese and celery Made to taste like Buffalo wings, but cauliflower. I really enjoyed thi...

My Top Chef "Star" Adventure

Image
In the Fall of 2011, I was on Maui for 3 days and went to Star Noodle 3 times.  BTW, I never go to the same place that many times, unless it's a client's restaurant and Star Noodle isn't a client.  Each time I went, the wait was longer than the time before, guess I'm not the only one who goes as much as I did.  I do have favorite restaurants on Maui, Star just happens to have one of the most imaginative menus in a casual atmosphere that I enjoy.      Not to mention a Star chef... Photo by Bravo TV's Top Chef Chef Sheldon Simeon "Top Chef Seattle" Finalist and Fan Favorite Star Noodle Star Noodle is at the top of the hill in an industrial area in Lahaina.  As you get to the top, look for all of the cars and the crowd of people standing in the parking lot AND you've found it! Now that this season's "Top Chef Seattle" is over, I'm sure the lines will be even longer... The magic of this plac...
