At the media preview of the new California Pizza Kitchen at Westfield Century City ,  Grand Opening was April 6, 2017. If you've followed me, you know I attended the 30th Anniversary Party of CPK. See more HERE But tonight wasn't just about their new Westside location, but also to introduce a new menu and Casamigos Tequila tasting. Yes, I walked the Yellow Carpet. Please No Flash Photography! Brooklyn - two8two Bar + Burger

Image
Before leaving NYC, I was told I needed to get a burger at two8two in Brooklyn.   On my last night before heading home, it was a stop at two8two to try one of their burgers. See What Jay Eats...   After ordering a draft, we started with Nachos with beef, bean and cheese on house-made tortilla chips with pico de gallo. The shredded cheese nachos are my favorite... Burgers Up! two8two burger with roasted poblano chiles, cheddar cheese, and two8two sauce on a toasted bun. It was a really good burger, the poblano chiles made the difference. As we were at the bar, there were two first-time customers who said they wanted burgers. Each ordered one and after finishing, one of them ordered another one, said "it was that good." (I agree)  It's a nice neighborhood place. It's not in a huge space, but one of those  places where everyone knows your name. Sorry, wrong city... I'll be back! two8two Bar + ...

GD Bro Burger in Santa Ana - Grand Opening!

Image
GD Bro Burger finds parking in Santa Ana, let me explain... You may have recognized the name from Food Network's "The Great Food Truck Race"  (Season 6)  They found a place to park the food truck and opened their first brick and mortar in Santa Ana. I was lucky to get a sneak peak before their August 29, 2015,  Grand Opening. After walking in the door, Patty Girth Matters! Looking forward to a stuffed burger. See What Jay Eats... When my order arrived, I first noticed the  raspberry bun on my burger. Yes, it got my attention! This is a Game Changer! I started out with the Duck Fat Fries, who wouldn't, right? They have other sides, see menu below.  I went with the "Juan & Only" burger with jalapeño cream cheese, pico de gallo, and avocado chipotle mayo on the raspberry bun. This was a good burger, there was just enough heat and the avocado was a nice tou...

A Favorite Burger - Plan Check Kitchen on Sawtelle

Image
Living in Los Angeles, there are a lot of good burger places, such as Umami Burger, Apple Pan, Father's Office, In n Out, etc. One of my favorites places for a burger is Plan Check Kitchen + Bar, headed by chef Ernesto Uchimura.  Chef Ernesto is the former  corporate  executive chef at Umami Burger. One of my favorites... PCB  (Plan Check Burger) with Americanized dashi cheese, ketchup leather, schmaltz onions, and mixed pickles on a crunch bun. Just one of the genius things of this burger is Chef Uchimura's creation of the ketchup leather.  It's housemade ketchup which has been dehydrated (similar to a fruit roll-up). It's placed at the bottom of the burger, preventing the burger juices from getting the bottom bun soggy AND you still get the ketchup flavor, brilliant!  It was a beautiful Los Angeles day, so sitting out on the patio was an easy decision.   See What Jay Eats... ...

Market Milkshake Monday at Plan Check Kitchen

Image
When is a milkshake not just a milkshake? When it's a Monday at Plan Check Kitchen! Each Sunday, the chef goes out to a local farmer's market to select a special flavor for Monday's special milkshake.  Along with other foodies, I got to sample the three milkshakes for this week's Market Milkshake Monday. It was the perfect tasting size, without being too much. See What Jay Eats...  This week's flavors: Strawberry & Rose, topped with rose sugar and a rose petal. Vanilla Bean Chocolate My favorite... Each milkshake had that old skool classic flavor, which I loved, but one of them stood out just a bit.  Strawberry & Rose Maybe it was the rose sugar on the top, but you could taste the freshness of the local strawberry with the rose.  These are the full size milkshakes. $8 Each Monday, they'll have Vanilla Bean, Chocolate, and a special flavor selected at a local f...

The Hundred-Foot Journey and Film Inspired Dishes

Image
In April, I was invited to Dodger Stadium to sample the new menu items at the ballpark for the 2014 season.  As much as I love baseball and food, movies are a very close second.   Before my involvement in the food industry, I began my marketing career at The Walt Disney Studios. After 10 years in the entertainment industry, I went to cooking school and the rest is history. I was invited to see a special screening of "The Hundred-Foot Journey." After seeing the one sheet (industry jargon for movie poster), it's  executive produced by Steven Spielberg & Oprah Winfrey, starring Academy Award winner Helen Mirren, and distributed by my old company, The Walt Disney Studios.   Photo Courtesy of ArcLight Cinemas We arrived at the ArcLight Cinemas Hollywood and were directed into a private area.  Besides the movie screening, we are getting a behind-the-scenes preview of the  new menu items at ArcLight's Cafe. (New items debut Septembe...
