GD Bro Burger in Santa Ana - Grand Opening!

Image
GD Bro Burger finds parking in Santa Ana, let me explain... You may have recognized the name from Food Network's "The Great Food Truck Race"  (Season 6)  They found a place to park the food truck and opened their first brick and mortar in Santa Ana. I was lucky to get a sneak peak before their August 29, 2015,  Grand Opening. After walking in the door, Patty Girth Matters! Looking forward to a stuffed burger. See What Jay Eats... When my order arrived, I first noticed the  raspberry bun on my burger. Yes, it got my attention! This is a Game Changer! I started out with the Duck Fat Fries, who wouldn't, right? They have other sides, see menu below.  I went with the "Juan & Only" burger with jalapeño cream cheese, pico de gallo, and avocado chipotle mayo on the raspberry bun. This was a good burger, there was just enough heat and the avocado was a nice tou

One thing that I love (but not always have time)  is going to the beach, even if it's to sit and watch the waves. But now I have another reason... Top Chef fans probably remember Chef Brian Huskey from Season 11 (New Orleans). Los Angeles diners may know him from restaurants such as Picca, Mochica, and Paiche. Regardless, I got a sneak peak tasting of his latest venture, Tackle Box (at the beach). See What Jay Eats...  Shrimp Sandwich with Romaine on a squid ink roll (this was a tasting size sandwich) The shrimp sandwich was fresh with crunchy lettuce, a good sandwich for a day at the beach. The house chips with seasoned salt were really good too. Salmon Poke with avocado, crispy rice and citrus dressing. Nice twist with the citrus flavoring and avocado.  Buffalo Cauliflower with blue cheese and celery Made to taste like Buffalo wings, but cauliflower. I really enjoyed this one... a mus

Denver: Osaka Ramen

When your best friend opens a restaurant,  you say  congratulations.   When he opens two restaurants in a short period,  you say  Wow, congratulations! When you know it's going to be really good,  you hop on  a plane and congratulate him in person! Chef / Owner Jeff Osaka of Osaka Ramen  and I have been friends  for a long long time.  I've been looking forward to checking out his latest restaurant opening.  Or should I say two restaurant openings?  Both restaurants located in Denver.  It was good to see him, his family, and a few friends to catch up and have some good eats...  The space at the RiNo location is underground, just like some of the ramen shops in Japan. It's a very cool space with seating options; long table, bar, and smaller tables. See What Jay Eats...  Green Beans chilled green beans, fresh ground sesame seeds,  and shoyu-sesame dressing. It had that familiar taste that we grew up with...
