From Farm to Table: A Sustainable Hawaii Event

Last year I attended the Hawai'i Food and Wine Festival event at the Hilton Hawaiian Village .  Besides all of the great food, I knew that the proceeds went to non-profit food and culinary organizations in Hawaii and was looking forward to this year... Day 3 of the festival and today's "Signature Event" is largest event attended.  The highlight is to showcase Hawaii's sustainable story, as well as, the many celebrity chefs who are active in the "farm to table" movement.        See What Jay Eats... If you haven't been to Hawaii lately, you might not be familiar with the food scene there now. Spending summers on Oahu with my grandparents, I became familiar with what most people know local Hawaii food to be... loco moco, SPAM musubi, saimin and plate lunch served with two scoops rice and one mac salad. Not only was this a celebration of what the islands have to offer, in terms of the state's bounty of local seafood, produce, beef, pork and poultry, but also to bring in master chefs from all over the world to create dishes highlighting these local ingredients. Hawai'i Food and Wine Festival 2012

One of my friends reminded me that it's Hawai'i Food and Wine Festival time again, the premier epicurean event of the year that I attend each year. OK, so this will be the Second Annual... This festival is co-founded by Roy Yamaguchi and Alan Wong, both James Beard Award-winning chefs, and features over 50 internationally-renowed master chefs, culinary personalities, and wine and spirit producers. The focus isn't just the incredible dishes created for this festival, but to share the local produce, meats and seafood. It's amazing to see what's created when chefs and farmers get together...
