Udon - Little Tokyo - Los Angeles

Image
Tsurumaru Udon Honpo Little Tokyo Galleria Mall Los Angeles I LOVE noodles and can eat them almost every other day, the other days I'm eating tacos.  If you follow me on Instagram, you'd see that I eat a lot of pho.  But when I'm in Hawaii, I eat udon at Marukame Udon in Waikiki.   It's kind of like a Subway sandwich or Chipotle set up, you pick the bowl size and type of udon and moved down the line where you can pick any sides (musubi or tempura) which are extras.  Tsurumaru is similar to this assembly line concept. 3rd Floor at the Little Tokyo Galleria Across from Honda Ya Izakaya and Sushi Go 55 See What Jay Eats...  I ordered a Niku Udon "Beef" Regular $5 Topped with green onions Didn't like the traditional lacquered spoon, it was like drinking from a ladle.  I opted for the plastic togo spoon...  Not bad for $5 The broth had a bit too much oil for my taste, ...

Ahi Poke

Image
Spending lots of summers in Hawaii, one of the dishes that I most looked forward to was Poke. Everyone has their own special recipe, but I like the simple ones that highlight ahi, esp since my grandmother knew I love tuna. Here's a quick Ahi Poke recipe that I use: 2 lbs. Sashimi Grade Yellowfin or Bigeye Tuna 1 pc Octopus 1/4 Maui Onion (or any sweet onion) 3 stalks Green Onions 4 TBS Soy Sauce Dash chili oil Hawaiian Salt to taste Cube tuna and octopus into bite size pieces and add to bowl. Slice Maui Onion and chop green onions and add to bowl. Add soy sauce, chili oil, and Hawaiian Salt. Refrigerate before serving. If too dry, add more soy sauce. Remember to keep it cold and enjoy... Please Note: Wild Bluefin Tuna was NOT used in this dish. Photos and recipe by Jay Terauchi Jay Eats Worldwide © Jay Terauchi
