Trejo's Cantina (New) - Hollywood

Image
Trejo's Cantina in Hollywood You're probably saying, that guy  looks familiar... Could it be Danny Trejo? You might remember him from his character, Machete. Interesting note, we both grew up in Echo Park. Regardless, he and 2 other partners opened Trejo's Tacos on La Brea to positive reviews. One thing about Trejo's Tacos , there's something for everyone, including vegan and soy tacos. I've attempted twice to stop at the La Brea location, but the lines were so long, I ended up at their neighbors' Top Round Roast Beef . BUT , this new place in Hollywood is their Cantina. Same great tacos at Trejo's Cantina  tho. BUT, they also have... Over 30 California Craft Beers on Tap I was invited to a private beer pairing at Trejo's Cantina and Finally got to sample their famous tacos with some California craft beer. See What Jay Eats... Brooklyn - two8two Bar + Burger

Image
Before leaving NYC, I was told I needed to get a burger at two8two in Brooklyn.   On my last night before heading home, it was a stop at two8two to try one of their burgers. See What Jay Eats...   After ordering a draft, we started with Nachos with beef, bean and cheese on house-made tortilla chips with pico de gallo. The shredded cheese nachos are my favorite... Burgers Up! two8two burger with roasted poblano chiles, cheddar cheese, and two8two sauce on a toasted bun. It was a really good burger, the poblano chiles made the difference. As we were at the bar, there were two first-time customers who said they wanted burgers. Each ordered one and after finishing, one of them ordered another one, said "it was that good." (I agree)  It's a nice neighborhood place. It's not in a huge space, but one of those  places where everyone knows your name. Sorry, wrong city... I'll be back! two8two Bar + ...

Sake, Shochu, and Beer at Nisei Week 2014

Image
It's Nisei Week! "Nisei" in Japanese means 2nd Generation. A Japanese American Celebration. I was invited to the "Sake, Shochu, and Beer Tasting" and one of the Nisei Week events. Entering the room on the rooftop level The room  was filled with over 105 sake, shochu,  and Japanese beers. One of the highlights of the evening was seeing Chef Katsu Michite I used to go to his restaurant on Hillcrest in Los Feliz many years ago.  The restaurant had no sign, I had to look for the pile of salt to find the correct door.  The waiting room was an art gallery and you'd then enter the dining room and there was the sushi bar. The plates and tea cups were hand-made by his  brother. It was almost like going to a privat e club without having to be a member. Salmon and Tuna Sushi was part of tonight's menu. Chef Katsu Michite It was good seeing Katsu san again and tasting his sushi o...
