Bavel (New) - Middle Eastern in DTLA

Image
I’ve been waiting for Bavel to open in DTLA. Bavel opened in the Artist District  in April 2018. A Middle Eastern restaurant, from the team at Bestia. Lemonade Time! Sparkling lemonades to start: SAFFRON pink lemonade with pomegranate  & cinnamon BISMARK classic lemonade with date syrup Duck ‘Nduja Hummus with creamy garbanzo beans, jerusalem mix spice, herbs It’s as good as it looks! Don’t forget to mix in the cilantro... Fried Pita Purple Butter Lettuce Salad  with rose water buttermilk vinaigrette,  turnips and za'atar Middle Eastern Aged Meats Loved the prosciutto with pistachio. Chicken Liver Flatbread  with merguez spice, caramelized onions, sour sumac onions and fresh dill. I would’ve never thought to put chicken livers on a flatbread, but it was really good! Grilled Octopus  With herbed yogurt, fried squid ink pita, capers, smoked paprika oil and turmeric pickled onions. Wagyu Beef Cheek Tajine with braised cheeks, chiles, preserved lemon, ...

Upcoming September 626 Night Market - 2014

Image
This is the 3rd and Final 626 Night Market at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia for 2014. Celebrating the End of Summer! Here's what I'm looking forward to this weekend... Photo Courtesy of Oh Thit! Rainbow Tacos from Oh Thit!   (F19)  A lemongrass pork grilled to perfection with fresh cabbage, onions, cilantro, topped with the special Oh Thit! sauce on a warm corn tortilla. I did get to sample the work-in-progress version and THAT was good OR should I say "Thit!" was good! I love tacos, this one had a nice kick with the flavorful pork. 20" Satay (The longest satay at a Night Market) from Aunty Merry   (E07) Chicken, Angus Beef, and Chicken Curry satay available. I've had their satay and Indonesian corn at a previous 626 and was very good.   This week has been quite warm and just thought to check the weather for this weekend in the San Gabriel Valley. It's Gonna be a Hot One! Here...

Happy Fryday! - July 29

Image
Today is the Last Fryday of July 2011! I have a couple of favorite places for French Fries, one of them being Wing Stop. Although not always consistent, I do like the seasoning that they use on them. My other favorite place is In-N-Out, I think it's because I've been going since high school and more of a package deal. Love a Double Double with fries and a lemonade, although it's pink. I went to a food show with a client once, he was looking for a new frozen French Fries. We must have tried about 20 frozen and fresh cut, after awhile they all tasted the same. What it came down to was the seasoning they were using, which is one reason why I like Wing Stop. Wing Stop French Fries One of my favorites... OK, I like the wings too... Today, I opted for Lemon Pepper flavoring I try not to eat much fried foods, but try and do are two different things... LOL! Happy Fryday! Photos by Jay Terauchi (c) Kahuna of the Kitchen
