Kaya Street Kitchen - Los Angeles

Image
If you've been down Fairfax Ave, just around the corner from  Benito's Taco Shop on Beverly and across the street from CBS Television City, you've probably seen this store front, I know I have. It's a unique combination of Southeast Asian  flavors;  specifically Indonesian, Singaporean, and  Malaysian.   See What Jay Eats... The restaurant is fast casual with a Chipotle-style line, which gives you the ability to select what looks good. I've been to a couple of events where Kaya Street Kitchen had served their dishes and had sampled their food. Now was my chance to try their menu. I had a hard time selecting, cause everything looked good. The options are bowl, salad, tacos, or burritos. I selected a bowl and wanted to try the base of green tea noodles and greens. Next, select a protein. This was the hard part for me, everything sounded great. I did go with the shrimp and pork meatballs and the M...

Limited Edition Ramen at Animal

Image
I had heard chef / owners of Animal Restaurant, Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo, were working on ramen.  I remember thinking that the proteins would be amazing and wouldn't be surprised if they created a new style of ramen.   It's good to have foodie friends that share info from around town. @BackyardBite  informed us that Animal's Limited Edition Ramen was at available on Mondays and Tuesdays (from 9 pm to close) at the bar only.  We arrived at about 8:15 or so and got our names on the waiting list, the bar only seats about 7-8 people.  I forgot to mention, there are only 20 bowls each night... It was suggested to us that we have the ramen first and then order any additions after. See What Jay Eats... The Limited Edition Animal Tonkotsu Ramen $18 with pork belly cha siu...

Plan Check Kitchen Fairfax: A Stussy Event

Like most Americans, I grew up on burgers and T-shirts.  Regardless if it was a burger at Original Tommy's on Rampart and Beverly or shopping for T-shirts at the Glendale Galleria, it was one of the things to do growing up in the center of Los Angeles.   A couple of years ago I was fortunate to get invited to a Stussy event at Plan Check Kitchen on Sawtelle (see my post here ).  I was glad to hear that Plan Check Kitchen opened a new location in the Fairfax area, it's a lot closer to home.  Recently, I was invited to a special Stussy event at the latest Plan Check Kitchen location on Fairfax.  More importantly, I was interested to see what Chef Ernesto Uchimura had in mind for this special Stussy menu.  I was NOT disappointed!
