The Recess Room - Fountain Valley

Image
It's Time For Recess! Grand Opening was  on September 29th. I was invited to the opening of The Recess Room in Fountain Valley. As I walk into the restaurant, I'm reminded that it was designed by Kenneth Ussenko Design , designer of such restaurants as, The District by Hannah An Crustaceans in San Francisco The Drum Room at Morongo Casino, Resort & Spa Designer Kenneth Ussenko  is best known for creating spaces where every wall has a story. When you check in at the hostess table, it was formerly a 1900 European newspaper shear. On a nice evening, I would opt to sit out on the patio. In the restaurant's main room, the focused on the bar. so let's begin there. Cocktail Time The cocktails feature locally sourced and homegrown ingredients from the on-site herb garden. Spread Mediterranean Kitchen - Downtown Los Angeles

Image
After the former tenant closed, I would always take a look inside and think this is a great casual spot. I guess the owners of Spread Mediterranean Kitchen  thought so too... Located on Main at 4th in Downtown LA On the other side of the intersection from Baco Mercat and Kazunori. I was one of the 35 invited guests to sample their menu. Thanks DamonEats for the invite! When you walk into the restaurant, it has a very comfortable feeling. The bar and bar tables are to the right, and on the left, you'll see a long communal  table  and a few intimate tables on the side. See What Jay Eats... at Spread Mediterranean Kitchen Hibiscus Rum Punch with light & dark rum, tropical juices, hibiscus tea, blackberry & thyme Demerara sugar. Hummus & Mushrooms a traditional Tehina hummus and roasted mushrooms. Really good, I could've eaten a 3 pan of this. Watermelon Salad with spi...

The Pub at Chino Hills - New Gastropub Menu

Image
There's nothing better than starting the weekend with cocktails and a gastropub menu, right? Thanks to Tanaya's Table for the invitation  to sample the new gastropub menu at The Pub at Chino Hills .  After ordering my Firestone 805 (blonde ale), the first course arrived at the table. See What Jay Eats... Cauliflower Ceviche, Laotian Style Beef Jerky,  and Fried Pork Belly Bites. The Cauliflower Ceviche served with tortilla chips and diced tomatoes, serrano peppers, garlic, onions, and cilantro, marined in lime juice. This was a nice alternative to fish and something I would have again. The Laotian Style Beef Jerky goes great with a beer (or two). Fried Pork Belly Bites fried and served with herbed creme fraiche. Not your typical bar food and a nice way to start the evening...  A variety of sandwiches put together by the kitchen for us to try. One stood out was the Pub Melt (center...
