Preview - Sunset & Dine 2016

At the iconic corner of Hollywood and Vine
lies the famous Capitol Records building.

This time, I'm not in Hollywood to see the famous sights
but to get a preview of this year's Sunset and Dine 2016!

This is the 5th annual Sunset & Dine,
on September 1st in Hollywood.
It's a food festival with sample food,
beer and wine, and desserts from more
than 20 Hollywood restaurants.

There will be concert
featuring Gabriel Garzon-Montano too.

See What Jay Eats...
at this year's preview to Sunset & Dine

Our first stop was Wood & Vine,
at the corner of Hollywood and Vine

The Mez-Mel
with mescal, watermelon, lemon, lime, honey,
and a Serrano pepper.

A nice summer cocktail
with a kick!

Wood & Vine is known for their
small plates, perfect for sharing.

 Watermelon & Tomato Salad
with watercress, cucumber, pickled watermelon rind,
and blue cheese.

One of the dishes to be served
at Sunset & Dine.

 Chicken and Sage Waffle

A mainstay menu item

 Braised Shortrib
served with cabbage, cherries, Fresno chili,
corn pudding, and jus.

We finished the Wood & Vine
tasting on a high note.

The great thing about Wood & Vine,
it's right across the street from The Pantages.

A great place to grab a bite before a show.

Chocolate Bar Pastry Cafe
has been open for about a month.

Yes, they have desserts and drinks,
but also gelato and empanadas too.

 We sampled their pear tart
and lemon tart.

All I heard was lemon tart.
Yup, I enjoyed it!

Chocolate Opera Cake

I was told I needed to try the
Roasted Chicken Sandwich on a Baguette.

The chicken was moist
and I'll have to be back to try the
Steak Sandwich next.

 Yes, an Espresso Bar too...

But, they had me at Chocolate Croissant!

Thank You
see you at Sunset & Dine!

Our third stop was
for poutines.

 What's a poutine?

Alan giving us the 411 on the history of
Smoke's Poutinerie AND
what is a poutine.

Having had them in Toronto,
I was familiar, but haven't
had a good one since Canada!

 A poutine is
cheese curds and gravy over
French fries.

They have great cheese curds here too!

 Building poutines

 The Triple Pork
with pork belly, bacon, and sausage
over a poutine.

Thanks Alan and Smoke!

on September 1st!

Our last stop of the Sunset & Dine preview
at one of my favorite pie shops,
at their new location on Hollywood Blvd.

I visit the DTLA location frequently
for nitro coffee and a breakfast hand pie.
So I know The Pie Hole well.

 We sampled savory pies,
the Mac 'n' Cheese and Chicken 'n' Cornbread.

But my favorite is their Earl Grey Pie.

I didn't know this, but with advanced notice,
The Pie Hole can make mini pies
of most of their favorite flavors
for special events.

We sampled the Mexican Chocolate,
Pecan, and the Earl Grey Pies.

The night cap ended
with lots of smiles
from the food writers and influencers.

Thank You
and we'll see you at Sunset & Dine!

All of these restaurants will be at
this year's Sunset & Dine,
along with 20 other Hollywood restaurants.

This is one of the best tastings in Los Angeles,
tickets are $35
AND one of the best deals in town!

Lots of food, drink, and entertainment!

Get tickets at Sunset & Dine Today
and we'll see you on September 1st
at Blessed Sacrament, 6636 Selma Ave., Hollywood.

Thank You!
Genevieve Haines
Joe Mariani
Kerry Morrison
Nerissa Silao
Devin Strecker
