Recap - August 2014 626 Night Market

It's August 626 Night Market Time
at Santa Anita Park.

If you've followed me, you know I love
going to one place and getting to try lots
and lots of food.  626 Night Market is like
a food Disneyland, over 130 food vendors!

Crazy, Right?

See What Jay Eats...

Roasted Corn, Pork Skewers, and Filet Mignon Skewers
on the grill from Oh Thit!

They make one of the most flavorful
thit nuong (grilled pork) I've had,
you can taste the lemongrass.  So good!

Not sure if I can talk about it,
but Oh Thit! is working on a new menu item for September.
Stay Tuned!

With 626 Night Market founder, Jonny Hwang.

We're talking food, the 626, and Maui.

The Tasting Menu

Sauce creator, Lincoln Lee, put together a sampler
to show the versatility of his sauce.

Top row from the left:  Diablo eggs and toast, triple-fried chicken
and gravy with waffle crumble, and infused watermelon
seared with LSM.

Bottom row from the left:  A Korean sweet and fiery sesame
filet mignon tartare and oyster on the half shell.

It was a great plate of food!

The main reason why I like La Sriracha Macha (LSM)
is it's not just a Hot Sauce.  It has flavors that
enhance what you put on it.

Currently available online HERE

Speaking of La Sriracha Macha...
Mama Musubi did a collaboration with La Sriracha Macha
and created a special sweet La Sriracha Macha SPAM Musubi.

I love combinations of flavors and this
one was sweet and spicy
with SPAM, the luncheon meat
and not flooding your inbox.

A twist on a classic SPAM musubi and I enjoyed it!

A chocolate mochi puff,
only available from Mama Musubi

This one has some chocolate chips inside
and since it's coconut cream,
it's dairy free and very good.

The other Mochi Puff flavors are (from the top)
Mango, Yuzu (Japanese citrus), Green Tea, Chocolate, and Strawberry.
available from Mama Musubi.

Yellowfin Tuna Poke Tacos

Tuna, sweet onions, scallions, sesame seeds,
in a special wasabi soy sauce and topped
with a dash of Hawaiian salt.

NOTE:  This was a collaboration with Mama Musubi

If you haven't been following 626 Night Market veteran
Kristie Hangyou've been missing out on the new
stuff.  Yes, the media followers her too...

See Kristie's LA Weekly article:
"5 Tasty Reasons to hit Up the Next 626 Night Market"

The Churro Dream
"Home of the Sugar Crunch Waffle"

Can't resist a good waffle with ice cream!

It was a warm weekend,
but if you had sunscreen on and kept hydrated,
it was a great food weekend!

Fried Egg Tofu

It was the first time I had fried EGG tofu, was really good.

Did you get to sample the Soy Pudding for FREE

For September's 626 Night Market,
be sure to sign up and printout your coupon
for a FREE soy pudding sample

With over 130 food vendors,
too many good choices...

Following Kristie Hang's lead, we were directed to Puffect

 Horchata Macaroons
from Puffect.

Who doesn't like macaroons?

The Banzai Jerky Bacon Egg Puff
from Puffect.

A collaboration between Banzai Jerky and Puffect.
Bacon jerky in a Hong Kong style waffle.

I Loved the Bacon and ate the whole thing...

The NegiMiso Dog
from JapaDog.

A Turkey sausage and Miso sauce topped
with shredded cabbage and green onions.

The bun was toasted (which I like) but by the
time I was able to eat it, the sauce was soaked up
by the bun and a bit soggy.
It's not their fault, I was busy with orders
and didn't have a chance to eat it right away.

I'll have to try it again, but I do like their TeriMayo dog.

McDonald's McCafe
had Mango Pineapple Smoothie samples

Either that straw is really big or...

The Asahi Beer Garden

As usual, the original Ramen Burger had the
longest line of the event.

This weekend's special menu item
was a Chicken Ramen Burger
with Keizo's special chicken sauce.

We got one with everything and
they had a hard time wrapping it,
cause it was so big...

Another Hit!

It's been about a year since Keizo Shimamoto created
the Ramen Burger.  People have lined up in Brooklyn,
Southern California, and even in Hawaii for this Original.
It's unfortunate that others have copied it.  Based on
the comments I've seen, consumers are unimpressed
with these copies and are the real losers, thinking they're
having the original Ramen Burger.

Elote in a cup
from Got Corn?

Mexican style corn with mayo and butter,
with a dash of cheese AND I put in
some lemon juice too.

I forgot to bring my La Sriracha Macha...

Corn with a C!
#cornporn

Clam Chowder
from Lobsta Truck

It hit the spot on a late Sunday night!

Churros

Comes with two dipping sauces,
I opted for chocolate and raspberry.

Something sweet to end the night
and the August 626 Night Market.

One More Thing...

Dream Sequence...

Mama Musubi's Poke Taco
topped with sea urchin.

It could happen, right?

Well, it does appears that dreams do come
true at the 626 Night Market.

The last 5 orders of poke tacos on Sunday night
were topped with sea urchin,
BONUS!

Follow Mama Musubi on Facebook
for the September 626 menu HERE.

NOTE:  This was a collaboration with Mama Musubi

It's nice see old friends, meet new ones,
and have some good food.

See You in September!
