True Food Kitchen - Pasadena

About 5 years ago, I went to the True Food Kitchen
in Santa Monica for dinner.

Had a great time, the menu had a lot of options,
and the food was good.

But I don't live (or have projects)
on that side of town now...

Since my first visit, the menu has changed a bit
(for the better)
See my first visit HERE

Hearing of a healthy restaurant opening in Pasadena,
I wasn't thinking it would be True Food Kitchen,
but am glad it's them.

It's been years and I was invited to the
Pasadena preview.

The Preview for invited guests
was held the weekend before
the opening.

 See What Jay Eats...

Started with the Health-Ade Kombucha
and added cranberry.

Other refreshers I would suggest is the
Medicine Man
a triple-brewed black tea, cranberry, pomegranate,
honey, and sea buckthorn.

Charred Cauliflower
with harissa tahini, medjool date, dill, mint, and pistachio
(vegan and gluten-free)

This was our server's, Tony,
recommendation and we enjoyed it!

Edamame Dumplings
in a dashi, with white truffle oil, and asian herbs.
(vegetarian)

I thought of it more as a ravioli
than a dumpling.
Maybe that's the Asian in me...

Smoked Turkey Wrap
with avocado, tomato, cucumber, provolone,
and hummus.
I opted for the side of kale salad with it.

If you follow me, you know I LOVE hummus,
wouldn't have thought to put it in a wrap.
But I enjoyed it!

 Scottish Steelhead "Salmon"
with smoked onion faro, arugula, roasted beet, and
a cilantro pumpkin seed pesto.

A private room with a TV,
can it get any better???

Trying to think up a reason
to use this room.

A massive kitchen with the prep stations in the
front.  Patrons can see food materials being
prepped for their favorite dishes.

While I'm taking a courtyard shot,
I see a familiar face in the crowd,
can you spot her?

Yup, this time she's
making a cameo in my post!

You've seen her on her LIVE cooking shows,
read her articles on LA Wonders, and of course,
at food events in and around Los Angeles...

Kimlai Yingling with her Butternut Squash pizza
with smoked onion, organic kale, vegan almond ricotta,
and dried cranberry.
 (vegan)

Grass-Fed Burger
with umami mushroom, caramelized onion, arugula,
parmesan, and mayonnaise,
on a flax seed bun.
(with option of sweet potatoes)

Thanks Kimlai and Randy for allowing
photos of your dishes before having
a chance to taste them.

WAIT, there's one more thing...
(as Steve Jobs would say)

DESSERT!!!

Flourless Chocolate Cake
with caramel, vanilla ice cream and cocoa nibs.
(vegetarian and gluten-free)

I usually don't order cake, but I do love
a good flourless chocolate cake.

This one was a good one!

Apple Goji Crisp
with almond, crumble, and vanilla ice cream
(vegan and gluten-free)

Yup, there were Goji berries too...

One thing I like about True Food Kitchen,
there's something for everyone.
Whether you're vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free,
beef eater, etc., there's something on the menu for YOU.

The menu items are well conceived
and makes sense with the selection
and variety for vegan, vegetarian, and
gluten-free customers.

The food ingredients are top notch,
grass-fed beef for one thing.
A variety of grains and other ingredients
that most restaurants in the area do not use.
Makes for a nice change.

The service was attentive
and our server, Tony,
not only made great suggestions,
but took care of us.
Thanks Tony!

This Pasadena restaurant has a nice large outdoor
patio, indoor dining, and a large private room.

It's a nice addition to Colorado Blvd and
a prime location for the Rose Parade.

Welcome to Pasadena!

See you on September 13th!

Thank You!
