Just off of Alameda Ave (at Bay St) in Downtown Los Angeles is the entrance,  to what the NY Times calls Smorgasburg (in Brooklyn) as "The Woodstock of Eating" But, in Los Angeles, we do it LA style...  Parking is FREE for the first 2 hours and admission is FREE. So there's no reason not to come each Sunday from 10 am - 5 pm. See What Jay Eats... Week 8 Sunday, August 7th  My first stop is usually at Todo Verde for one of their aqua frescas. Today I had the Amorcito, with strawberry, rose, chia seeds, and maple syrup.  Todo Verde also has smoothies too.  Lots of choices Almost too many... Next stop, Burritos La Palma It may not look like much, but these burritos are fantastic! Flour tortillas made each morning.  Stopped at Summer Crab Co for  their Singaporean Chili Crab Sandwich.  Of course I had to see my friends at Mama Musu...

Sunday, August 21st was a special Barbecue Day! If you follow me, you know I love good BBQ and would spend all of my free time in Central Texas. See my last BBQ adventure HERE "It is better to have burnt and lost, then never to have barbecued at all." ~ William Shakespeare Upon arrival, I had to decide what to start with... See What Jay Eats... Of course my first stop is always Todo Verde for an agua fresca.  Today I had the Naranjada. With orange, orange blossom water, chia seeds, and maple syrup.  It was refreshing and kept me hydrated.  While talking to a couple of vendor friends, they introduced me to Henry of Yellow Business . They make Hong Kong Egg Waffles over charcoal. Henry suggested that I try the Matcha Green Tea version. Since they make the waffles over charcoal, I noticed that the waffle was crispier than the ones made from an electric waffle iron. Yellow Business was at ...

The Amorcito agua fresca from Todo Verde . with Strawberry, Rose, Chia Seeds, and Maple Syrup. One of the more popular aqua frescas and probably my favorite one.  It wasn't too busy today, so I got a chance to take a break and get something to eat. Stopped by to see Chef Ted Montoya of Calo Provisions had on his menu today. Chef Ted suggested the Veg Tamale  Chef working on my order. This can be a vegan option without the cheese, it's all about the options.  The Veg "Soyrizo" Chili Tamale  with Panela cheese and scallions from Calo Provisions . The Raspado "Orangria" was refreshing on a warm day. Che...

It's the 5th installment of Smorgasburg Los Angeles, July 17, 2016 ( Happy 61st Anniversary Disneyland! ) Smorgasburg is a market for food, design, and vintage  items every Sunday in Downtown Los Angeles at the Alameda Produce Market. Happy National Ice Cream Day!   Lots of people came out for ice cream and had some special ice cream vendors too. It was probably the busiest day yet... It was nice seeing the Salt & Straw truck,  but look at this line... See What Jay Eats...   The Ice Cream Bonanza brought out a lot of people and many of the vendors ran  out of food. I happened to visit my friends at  Maury's Bagels. Jason said he was out of fish, so he put together an Avocado  Jalapeno Cheddar bagel with cream cheese, tomato, and red onions. Wow, it was a great combination! Before we packed up and headed for home, I was able to get a burrito from  Burritos La Palma . It may not l...

UPDATED June 18, 2016 I had a conversation with a friend who asked me which food event I was going to attend this weekend? I told him that I was going to be busy most of the weekend, but I was going to the opening of Smorgasburg LA on Sunday (Father's Day). I had been to the original Smorgasburg in Brooklyn and the food was fantastic! Mario Batali called Smorgasburg "The single greatest thing I've seen gastronomically in New York City." It's now in Los Angeles! The famous Ramen Burger got it's start at Smorgasburg in Brooklyn. See some of my Smorgasburg pics from Brooklyn HERE Not being too familiar with the food vendors at Smorgasburg, my friend asked what am I looking forward to on Opening Day? Besides my friends and LA favorites : Guerrilla Tacos Lobsterdamus Mama Musubi PopdUp Ramen Burger TJ's Tacos Here's what I'm looking forward to  at  Smorg LA : ...
