Market Milkshake Monday at Plan Check Kitchen

Image
When is a milkshake not just a milkshake? When it's a Monday at Plan Check Kitchen! Each Sunday, the chef goes out to a local farmer's market to select a special flavor for Monday's special milkshake.  Along with other foodies, I got to sample the three milkshakes for this week's Market Milkshake Monday. It was the perfect tasting size, without being too much. See What Jay Eats...  This week's flavors: Strawberry & Rose, topped with rose sugar and a rose petal. Vanilla Bean Chocolate My favorite... Each milkshake had that old skool classic flavor, which I loved, but one of them stood out just a bit.  Strawberry & Rose Maybe it was the rose sugar on the top, but you could taste the freshness of the local strawberry with the rose.  These are the full size milkshakes. $8 Each Monday, they'll have Vanilla Bean, Chocolate, and a special flavor selected at a local f...

May is National Strawberry Month!

It's May and Strawberry Season! I made my way down historic Route 66 to the famous Donut Man in Glendora. If you park in the back, you'll see a couple hundred empty strawberry cases. Wait until peach season, the cases are larger... Fresh Strawberry Donut $3 For a Monday, there were only 3 people in line. The first guy in line, ate his fresh strawberry donut right away. He got back in line behind me, rookie mistake. You always get at least 2... It seems like a half a basket of strawberries Happy National Strawberry Month! They do have other donuts, but everyone comes for the fresh fruit ones... The Donut Man 915 E Route 66 Glendora, CA 91740 (626) 335-9111 Always Open Can't wait for Peach Season! First Stop Maui: Tasaka Guri Guri

Image
My first stop after leaving the airport in Kahului is heading to Tasaka Guri Guri at the Maui Mall. This is probably the most famous guri guri (pronounced goodie goodie) shop in Hawaii. It's a cross between sherbet and ice cream and dates back to the plantation days. I get my guri guri and Maui potato chips before heading to the hotel or meeting. See What Jay Eats... Strawberry Guri Guri "Standard Flavor" 2 scoops in a paper cup $1.20 Kitch'n Cook'd Maui Potato Chips Another childhood favorite... Pineapple Guri Guri "The other standard flavor" I even stopped on the way back to the airport... Trip Tally: 3 times (2 Strawberry and 1 Pineapple) Who knows how much longer they'll be in business? On that day, I'll be just as sad as when Sushi Nozawa closed... So Good, They Named it Twice! Photos by Jay Terauchi ©Jay Terauchi Jay Eats
